After an extensive search, City Manager Patrick Duhaney has appointed Christian Green as the new director of the City of Virginia Beach’s Department of Economic Development. Green brings over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, with a focus on economic development and tourism. His previous roles include deputy director of Economic Development and Tourism in Glendale, Arizona, where his team won an International Economic Development Council award for their efforts during the 2023 Super Bowl. Green has also worked as the economic development/tourism manager for the city of Scottsdale, Arizona, and most recently served as the director of Economic Development and Tourism in Stonecrest, Georgia.
In his new role, Green will work to identify new revenue streams for the City of Virginia Beach and drive economic growth in the region. City Manager Patrick Duhaney praised Green’s experience in facilitating complex projects and his ability to work with various stakeholders. Green expressed his excitement to join the team and looks forward to building on Virginia Beach’s success in advancing regional competitiveness and creating new job opportunities for the community.
Green holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Washburn University and will begin his new role on February 24th. City officials are confident that his leadership will help spur economic development in Virginia Beach and continue the city’s growth trajectory.
