A US military plane started deporting Indian migrants in line with President Donald Trumps stern stance on undocumented migrants in the United States. The C-17 aircraft carried 205 Indian nationals from San Antonio, Texas, and marked the furthest destination of US military deportation flights so far. Trump initiated military deportation flights last week, sending migrants to Latin America. India and the US have identified 18,000 Indian migrants in the US illegally.
Trump’s immigration policies have been implemented through the military, including sending troops to the US-Mexico border. However, military deportation flights to Guatemala last week cost at least $4,675 per migrant, much more than commercial options. Trump has also announced tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China, with additional tariffs planned for Europe. Canada and Mexico got temporary reprieves with promises to stop the flow of drugs and migrants into the US.
This action comes after Trump’s promise to deport millions of migrants and his declaration of a national emergency at the southern border. The US Congress approved a bill for the detention and deportation of undocumented migrants charged with certain crimes. Trump’s strict immigration policies have led to deportations and increased border security measures. Despite these actions, India and the US continue to work together to address the issue of illegal Indian migrants in the US.
