The WVU Government Relations team is gearing up for the upcoming legislative session in West Virginia, where they will represent the University at the State Capitol. Over the years, the team has successfully secured funding for various projects and initiatives, including infrastructure improvements in Morgantown, Keyser, and Beckley, as well as funds for the WVU Cancer Institute to seek National Cancer Institute designation. They have also assisted students and families with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Travis Mollohan, associate vice president for Government Relations, highlighted the team’s goals for the 2025 legislative session, which include advocating for policy changes and funding opportunities that benefit the University. They will focus on issues such as supporting the University’s Police Department, protecting WVU Athletics, and addressing rising costs of PEIA premiums for employees.
The team is dedicated to promoting the University’s economic impact and outreach efforts, while also helping faculty, staff, and students engage with ongoing legislative discussions. The Under the Dome newsletter, produced by the Government Relations team, provides the latest information on legislative issues affecting WVU and higher education.
The 2025 WVU and WVU Extension Day at the Legislature is set to take place on March 5, offering participants the opportunity to connect with state leaders and advocate for the University’s interests. Those interested in participating can sign up on the WVU Government Relations website. Stay updated on legislative issues and Government Relations announcements by following MOUNTAINEER E-News.
