West Virginia star Tucker DeVries will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season due to a left shoulder injury that requires surgery. DeVries, the son of WVU coach Darian DeVries, transferred to West Virginia this season after his father moved from Drake to coach the Mountaineers. Tucker had been averaging 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in eight games this season.
Since Tucker’s injury, Oklahoma State transfer guard Javon Small has stepped up as a key player for West Virginia, leading the team in points, assists, and steals. Small’s performance has helped the Mountaineers to a 5-5 record in Big 12 play, including a recent 63-50 win over Cincinnati.
Despite DeVries’ absence, there is a possibility that he could return for the 2025-26 season as he played in less than 30% of West Virginia’s games this season. Coach Darian DeVries indicated to CBS Sports that Tucker is expected to receive a medical redshirt for this season.
Tucker DeVries had a standout season at Drake last year, averaging a career-high 21.6 points and helping the team reach the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. His presence on the court will be missed by West Virginia this season, but fans can anticipate his potential return in the future.
