A Virginia National Guard Black Hawk helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in Cascade, Maryland on Thursday afternoon due to a reported mechanical issue. Fortunately, the two individuals on board were unharmed. The helicopter landed safely in a field near the Hagerstown Regional Airport and will remain there overnight as law enforcement secures the area. The Virginia National Guard’s aviation team will recover the aircraft on Friday. This incident comes shortly after a tragic midair collision involving a Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines flight near Reagan National Airport last week, resulting in the loss of 67 lives. Cascade, Maryland is located in Washington County, just south of the Pennsylvania state line. Stay informed with the latest news by signing up for email alerts from WTOP.
