Federal authorities claim that ex-postal employee stole $24 million in fraudulent check scheme

Former USPS employee Nakedra Shannon, along with co-conspirators Desiray Carter and Donell Gardner, were sentenced to prison for stealing over $20 million in checks. Shannon received a five-year sentence, while Carter and Gardner were sentenced to four-and-a-half years each. They were also ordered to pay over $100,000 in restitution. The trio participated in a scheme from March 2021 to July 2023, where they stole incoming and outgoing checks from the mail. Gardner and Carter would then sell the checks through a Telegram channel named OG Glass House. The group stole $24 million worth of checks, including more than $12 million in checks sold through the channel and over $8 million in stolen U.S. Treasury checks. The co-conspirators provided customer service for purchasers of the stolen checks on OG Glass House, guaranteeing replacement checks if needed. They communicated and transferred stolen checks through private Telegram chats. Carter used the name “SW1PER” on Telegram, while Gardner used the name “RonnieHicks.” Undercover agents contacted Carter to purchase stolen checks, leading to the arrest of all three in mid-November 2023. Shannon pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit financial institution fraud and theft of government property. The trio was found to have obtained hundreds of thousands of dollars in criminal proceeds from the mail theft scheme.
