Boston College ended their four-game losing streak on Tuesday night with a 54-36 victory over Virginia Tech. Donald Hand Jr. led the way with 16 points, while Chad Venning and Jayden Hastings each contributed eight points to the win. The Eagles, now 11-15 overall and 3-12 in the ACC, had lost 10 of their past 11 games before this victory.
Virginia Tech, now 11-15 overall and 6-9 in the ACC, struggled offensively, shooting just 29.4 percent from the field and missing five of their eight free-throw attempts. Mylyjael Poteat led the Hokies with 10 points and was the only player on the team to shoot above 50 percent from the field.
Boston College’s defense was the key to the win, allowing only 36 points, the fewest they have allowed in an ACC game since joining the conference in 2005. The Eagles went on a 12-0 run in the first half to take control of the game and never looked back.
The victory improved Boston College’s home record to 8-7 and gave them a much-needed boost as they head into the final stretch of the season. With efficient scoring from Hand Jr. and solid defense, the Eagles proved they are a force to be reckoned with in the ACC.
