As a major winter storm approaches Virginia Beach, city officials are taking proactive measures to ensure residents’ safety. Work trucks have been out since the beginning of the week laying brine on roads in anticipation of at least six inches of snow. Crews are focusing on major roads leading to firehouses and hospitals, with additional staff and vehicles being deployed for emergency response.
The city is closely monitoring the situation and plans to have snowplow drivers on standby to clear primary roadways as soon as the snow falls. They have also requested 12 additional plows from the state to assist with snow removal. A decision on issuing a local emergency declaration will be made later Tuesday or Wednesday morning.
Residents are advised to stay off the roads during the storm and to check for updates on accumulations and road conditions. With the potential for up to a foot of snow in parts of Hampton Roads, the city is taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents. Stay tuned for further updates as the storm approaches.
