Man from Virginia arrested in Florida after abandoning infant in snow and attacking mother: authorities

A Virginia man has been arrested in Florida for allegedly attacking and abandoning an infant in the snow after assaulting the child’s mother earlier this month in Fairfax County. Darvin Flores Caballeros, 20, fled to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, following a domestic assault on February 12 where he reportedly attacked and strangled the mother of a 13-day-old infant, causing her to drop the child. Caballeros then took the infant and left the child in a pile of snow, where it was rescued by a good Samaritan. The mother sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized as a result of the attack. Caballeros was apprehended by Walton County Sheriff’s deputies as he was leaving an apartment in Santa Rosa Beach and is currently awaiting extradition to Virginia. He faces multiple charges, including malicious wounding, strangulation, child endangerment, and assault and battery. The incident has shocked and outraged the community, highlighting the importance of addressing domestic violence and ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals, especially vulnerable children. Authorities are working to ensure justice is served in this disturbing case.
