Del. Baxter Ennis, a Republican from Chesapeake, announced that he will not seek re-election in 2026. The 72-year-old retired U.S. Army officer was elected to the Virginia House in 2023 and has focused on lower taxes, veterans’ benefits, and healthcare legislation during his time in office. Ennis expressed frustration with House Democrats blocking his bills and endorsed Mike Lamonea to succeed him in the 89th district. Ennis thanked his constituents for their support and pledged to continue representing Chesapeake and Suffolk until the end of his term.
