BYU Ranks 25th in Victory Over Mountaineers.

In an exciting game at the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah, forward Fousseyni Traore led the 25th-ranked BYU Cougars to a 77-56 victory over West Virginia. Traore’s game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds were instrumental in the Cougars’ dominant win. BYU started slow but used a 10-0 run at the end of the first half to take control of the game.

Despite the Mountaineers’ efforts, BYU’s inside game led by Traore proved too much to handle, as they shot 60.6% in the second half and outscored West Virginia significantly. West Virginia coach Darian DeVries expressed disappointment in his team’s performance, comparing it to a previous game where they lost control despite a strong start.

BYU’s dominance inside the paint, superior depth, and Traore’s prowess near the basket were key factors in their victory. The Cougars also controlled the rebounding battle and limited West Virginia’s bench production. Guard Javon Small was the lone bright spot for West Virginia, scoring 15 points.

The victory marks BYU’s sixth consecutive win, moving them into a tie for fourth place in the Big 12 standings. On the other hand, West Virginia falls to 17-12 overall and 8-10 in conference play, with a tough matchup against Utah next. Utah, now coached by interim coach Josh Eilert, is coming off a strong win over Arizona State and is tied with West Virginia in ninth place in the standings. A crowd of 17,978 witnessed the exciting game in Provo.
