Local Production in Virginia Beach Connects with Veteran PTSD Through ‘My Late Friend Zoe’

A new film, “My Dead Friend Zoe,” with ties to Virginia Beach, is set to tackle the difficult subject of veteran post-traumatic stress disorder. The movie, written by Iraq war veteran Kyle Hausmann-Stokes and featuring big names like Natalie Morales and Morgan Freeman, explores the struggles of post-war life.

The script initially needed additional funding to get off the ground, and a group of locals from Virginia Beach stepped in to help make it a reality. They were even flown out to Hollywood for the filming, where they had a positive experience working with the cast and crew.

Producer Jason Barnes highlighted the film’s focus on military veteran PTSD and suicide, and hopes that it will inspire veterans who are struggling with mental health issues to seek help. The writer, Kyle, hopes that if just one person watches the movie and decides to talk to someone about their struggles, it will be considered a success.

The movie had a private premiere at the Beach Cinema Clubhouse in Virginia Beach on Thursday, and was released to the public on Friday. With a strong message and notable talent behind it, “My Dead Friend Zoe” promises to shed light on an important issue affecting many veterans.
