Wilmington, Del. (March 7, 2025) – The Mezzanine Gallery, run by the Delaware Division of the Arts, is currently showcasing an exhibition titled “Figments” by artist Virginia Lockman. The exhibition, which will be on view from March 7 to 28, 2025, features digital collages inspired by an old family album. Lockmans’s work combines family photographs with elements of childhood fairy tales, vintage imagery, birds, animals, celestial elements, and navigational references, creating dreamlike interpretations of the past.
Lockman explained that the family album from the early 1900s contained images of her ancestors, childhood friends, and family pets, sparking her curiosity about their lives. This led her to create the collages as a way to imagine the personalities and narratives of her relatives. Each piece is a creative adventure, engaging viewers with elements of nature, animals, and celestial references reminiscent of fairy tale illustrations from her childhood books.
The Mezzanine Gallery, located in Wilmington, Delaware, will host an opening reception on Friday, March 7, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., providing an opportunity for guests to meet the artist and explore her imaginative works. Lockman, a photographer and digital artist, has previously exhibited her work in various solo and group exhibitions and finds inspiration in the beauty of everyday life and the passage of time.
The gallery, open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., aims to highlight the work of Delaware’s Individual Artist Fellows, showcasing diverse artistic talent throughout the year. For more information about the exhibition and the Mezzanine Gallery, visit https://arts.delaware.gov/mezzanine-gallery.
