Weiler Sastre stands out at NCAA Championships


Carmen Weiler Sastre had an impressive performance at the NCAA Championships, setting three school records and earning two First-Team All-American finishes. Competing in the 100 backstroke, Weiler Sastre advanced to finals with a new school record time of 50.29 and finished eighth overall. She then went on to post a time of 1:49.22 in the 200 backstroke finals, securing another school record and a fifth-place finish. Additionally, she set a new school record in the 100 free as part of the 400 free relay team.

Teammates Emma Atkinson and Emily Claesson also had strong showings in various events, contributing to the team’s success at the Championships. The women’s team concluded the week with a 20th place finish overall, scoring 37 points.

Looking ahead, the Hokie men are set to compete at the NCAA Championships in Federal Way, Washington from March 26-29. The team will aim to build on the success of the women’s team and continue to make an impact at the national level.
