Hall’s Legacy Cemented in West Virginia Record Books | Latest Updates on News, Sports, and Employment

Oak Glen graduate Peyton Hall made a strong showing at the NCAA Div. I Wrestling Championships, finishing in third place in the 165-pound weight class. Hall, a fifth-year senior at West Virginia University, had a decorated career and finished with a 135-30 record. He was also a three-time All-American, placing seventh in 2024 and eighth in 2022. Hall was the first Mountaineer to place in the 165-pound class at nationals, joining Greg Jones and Vertus Jones as three-time WVU All-Americans. In the third-place match, Hall defeated Christopher Minto of Nebraska with a score of 13-5, using an explosive second period to secure the win. He also avenged a previous loss to Terrell Barraclough in the consolation semifinal, winning 7-5 with a late takedown.

West Virginia finished tied for 18th place as a team in the championships, marking the first time the school has finished in the top 20 in back-to-back championships since 2004-05. Additionally, Hall’s 35 wins in the season tied for seventh all-time at WVU. During the evening session, Hall had the opportunity to meet and pose for a photo with President Donald Trump. Overall, Hall’s performance at the NCAA Championships solidified his place as one of the most successful wrestlers in WVU history.
