Lincolnia’s Chowan Avenue to Experience Daytime Lane Closures from March 31st to April 3rd in Northern Virginia District

Residents and commuters in Lincolnia should take note of a detour that will be in place for pipe replacement on Chowan Avenue next week. From Monday, March 31 through Thursday, April 3, the stretch of Chowan Avenue between Fifth Street and Third Street will be closed to through traffic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Access to properties along Chowan Avenue will still be allowed, but traffic will not be able to pass beyond the point of pipe replacement near the intersection with Fifth Street.

During the closure, through traffic will be detoured via Fifth Street, Cherokee Avenue, and Third Street to return to Chowan Avenue. The Virginia Department of Transportation advises residents to check for traffic updates and information on work zones online at 511.vdot.virginia.gov, through the 511Virginia app, or by calling 511 in Virginia.

This detour is necessary for drainage pipe replacement and is dependent on weather conditions. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time during this period. For further updates, residents can follow VDOT Northern Virginia on Twitter at @vadotnova.
