Virginia Tech Graduate Reflects on the Importance of Giving Back to Athletics
Samantha Bishop, a 2021 Virginia Tech graduate, currently thrives as a Head Start Teacher, utilizing her degree in Human Development along with minors in Psychology and Disability Studies. Initially on a Biology path, Samantha discovered her true passion through a transformative Human Development course, prompting her to shift her academic focus to better support underserved communities and advocate for individuals with disabilities.
An enthusiastic supporter of Virginia Tech athletics, Samantha emphasizes the crucial role that community support plays in enhancing student-athlete experiences. “Our support means everything to the athletes,” she states, highlighting the importance of academic and athletic backing to bolster their success. “Our sports teams would not be where they are now without Hokie Nation’s support. Let’s continue to build the Virginia Tech Athletic department!”
Samantha’s connection to Virginia Tech runs deep, as she is part of a Hokie legacy. “I’ve been a Hokie my whole life, with both parents, my stepdad, and my grandpa all having attended,” she proudly shares, reinforcing her lifelong commitment to the university.
Reflecting on her athletic experiences, Samantha highlights the significance of sporting events in her Virginia Tech journey. “I attended as many games as I could. They helped me create amazing memories and forge new friendships, enriching my university experience.”
Her favorite memory? The thrilling six-overtime football victory against UNC.
