West Virginia Mountaineers: Transfer Insights on Morris Ugusuk

West Virginia Mountaineers Add Transfer Guard Morris Ugusuk to Roster

MORGANTOWN, WV — The West Virginia Mountaineers basketball program has bolstered its roster with the addition of Morris Ugusuk, a 6-foot-4 guard transferring from the University of South Carolina. The Helsinki, Finland native brings valuable experience after appearing in 62 games over two seasons, including six starts. During the last season, he averaged 5.9 points, 1.4 rebounds, shooting 38.4% overall and an impressive 40.7% from beyond the arc.

Ugusuk’s commitment follows his official campus visit and marks the first addition for West Virginia since April 20. He is the eighth transfer acquisition this offseason, joining forward DJ Thomas from the high school ranks, as the program prepares for the 2025-26 season with nine confirmed roster spots.

A standout at the Drive Basketball Academy in Finland, Ugusuk reclassified to join South Carolina in the 2023 class, where he averaged 17.2 points, 5.3 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.2 steals during his senior year. He also represented Finland at the 2022 FIBA Under-18 European Championship, highlighting his potential on an international level.

Ugusuk is particularly effective in catch-and-shoot scenarios, evidenced by his 40% success rate from three-point territory last season. While he is adaptable, he primarily excels in shooting from the wings and corners, though he is still developing his ability to drive to the rim consistently.

With several roster spots still to fill, the Mountaineers’ coaching staff is expected to continue enhancing their backcourt depth as they move forward. Ugusuk’s addition not only strengthens the team’s perimeter shooting but also enhances their overall length and versatility on the court.
