Virginia Giuffre, who accused Prince Andrew in the Epstein sex scandal, has passed away.

Press Article: Virginia Giuffre, Advocate for Survivors, Dies at 41

Virginia Giuffre, a pivotal figure in the fight against sexual trafficking and a prominent accuser of Prince Andrew, tragically passed away by suicide on Friday at her farm in Western Australia. She was 41. Giuffre was known for her courage in speaking out against sexual exploitation, detailing abuse she suffered as a teenager trafficked by the notorious financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Her publicist, Dini von Mueffling, described Giuffre as “deeply loving, wise and funny,” highlighting her role as a beacon of hope for other survivors. Giuffre’s advocacy work emerged following the downfall of Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while facing federal sex trafficking charges.

In multiple lawsuits, Giuffre alleged she was recruited by Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s associate, under the pretense of working as a masseuse. She claimed to have been coerced into sexual encounters with influential men, including Prince Andrew, who categorically denied the allegations. Their public confrontation culminated in a controversial BBC interview, leading to Andrew stepping back from royal duties.

Giuffre also revealed her traumatic childhood, which included early abuse and a difficult escape from her family life. After moving to Australia and starting a family, she founded the charity SOAR to support trafficking survivors.

Despite her contributions to raising awareness about sexual exploitation, Giuffre’s journey was marred by struggles and personal challenges, including a recent serious accident. Her efforts have significantly impacted discussions around sexual abuse and trafficking, ensuring her legacy as a champion for victims will endure.

Prosecutors chose not to include her allegations in Maxwell’s case, where Maxwell was ultimately convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Giuffre’s life reminds us of the enduring fight against sexual violence and the critical importance of giving a voice to survivors.
