Lawrence, KS – In a stellar performance, the Kansas Jayhawks baseball team kicked off their final regular-season series with a decisive 3-0 victory against No. 16 West Virginia at Kendrick Family Ballpark on Thursday night. Sophomore pitcher Dominic Voegele, who began the season as the Big 12 preseason pitcher of the year, delivered an impressive seven shutout innings, marking a return to form after a fluctuating season.
Voegele was in control throughout the game, avoiding walks and overcoming six hits while managing to hold a slim lead. A critical moment came in the fourth inning when Voegele struck out West Virginia’s Sam White, effectively neutralizing a potential scoring scenario with a runner on third.
Closer Alex Breckheimer further solidified the win by recording a six-out save, striking out four Mountaineers batters. The Jayhawks’ offense was bolstered by late-game home runs from Michael Brooks and Ian Francis, providing additional cushion to the lead.
