Press Release: Stillman Women’s Basketball Coach Alicio Dunk Moves to Virginia Union
After a remarkable 2024-25 season, Stillman College’s women’s basketball head coach Alicio Dunk is set to depart the program for Division II Virginia Union University. Dunk, who took the helm at Stillman in 2017, leaves behind a legacy that includes a 122-106 overall record, making him the most successful women’s coach at Stillman in over 40 years.
During his tenure, Dunk guided the Tigers to their first-ever NAIA Tournament victory and orchestrated a historic 26-win season this past year, the highest in the program’s history. Dunk initially led Stillman to the tournament in his first season and successfully returned to the postseason in spring 2025.
A former college player at Tennessee and East Carolina, Dunk’s journey also includes a stint playing professionally in Asia before starting his coaching career at Elizabeth City State University. His move to Virginia Union marks a significant advancement, following the program’s impressive performance as the Division II national runner-up in 2016.
As Stillman searches for Dunk’s successor, the names of assistant coaches KaTia May and Harold Ingram are prominent among potential candidates. The Tigers will be looking to build on the momentum established during Dunk’s leadership and continue the trend of success in women’s basketball.
In announcing his new role, Dunk expressed gratitude for the opportunities and experiences he’s had at Stillman and is excited about the challenge ahead at Virginia Union. The transition marks a new chapter for both Dunk and the Stillman women’s basketball program as they move forward.
