Washington, D.C. – Press Release
St. John’s College High quarterback Nyeem Woods is celebrating a significant milestone following a recent one-day camp in West Virginia, where he secured a scholarship offer from the Mountaineers. The 6-foot-1, 179-pound sophomore was impressed by the atmosphere and facilities, highlighting the effective coaching he received.
At the camp, Woods received constructive feedback on his performance, specifically his arm strength and accuracy. He had the opportunity to engage with quarterbacks coach Rhett Rodriguez, head coach Rich Rodriguez, and other staff members, who emphasized discipline and strong coaching practices — a refreshing approach in an era where many coaches hesitate to mentor players due to transfer portal uncertainties.
“WVU’s camp was well-organized and run with a certain type of discipline and aggression,” Woods remarked, praising the staff for their commitment to all participants. In the previous season, he demonstrated his skills by throwing for 1,200 yards and amassing 18 total touchdowns, showcasing his potential on the field.
After his meeting with Coach Rich Rodriguez, Woods was informed about the scholarship offer, a moment marked by excitement and gratitude. “I couldn’t do anything but give God the glory for allowing something like that to happen,” he expressed.
Looking ahead, Woods plans to return to West Virginia and is also in the process of scheduling additional camps to further showcase his talent. With this scholarship offer, his prospects continue to brighten, solidifying his growing reputation as a promising quarterback in high school football.
