West Virginia University Welcomes Aidan Dortch to Golf Team

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University (WVU) golf coach Sean Covich has officially announced the signing of Aidan Dortch to a grant-in-aid for the 2025-26 academic year, bolstering the team’s talent.

Dortch, a promising golfer from Dallas, Texas, joins WVU after a season with Texas Christian University (TCU) and a successful high school career at Trinity Christian-Addison High School. He competed in three tournaments for TCU, showcasing his skills with a season-low of 71 during the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational.

During his time in high school, Dortch was instrumental in securing four 6A state championships from 2021 to 2024. His achievements include being named to the 6A All-District, All-Region, and All-State teams for four consecutive years and setting a scoring record at the regional tournament with a remarkable 65-65 performance. Dortch was also a two-time state medalist runner-up in both 2023 and 2024 and clinched a state medal in 2022.

In junior golf, he demonstrated consistent excellence, achieving top finishes in prestigious events like the Jack Burke Jr. and Mizuno Junior Championships. Recently, he qualified for the 116th Texas Amateur, shooting a commendable 66 in the qualifying round, and has made the cut in this tournament for three consecutive years.

Dortch is not only recognized for his athletic prowess but also for his academic ambition, majoring in business. Coach Covich expressed enthusiasm about Dortch’s addition, stating, "Aidan is a young man we are very familiar with having recruited him out of high school. I believe he will take advantage of his opportunity to compete for a starting role in our lineup."

WVU looks forward to Dortch’s contributions to the team as they aim for a successful season ahead.
