Virginia Women’s Soccer Secures 2-0 Victory Over Towson in Season Opening Match – Sports Illustrated

The Virginia women’s soccer team started their season off on the right foot with a 2-0 victory over Towson. The game, which took place at Virginia’s home field, saw the Cavaliers dominate from start to finish.

Virginia got on the board early with a goal from junior striker Rebecca Jarrett in the 14th minute. The Cavaliers continued to pressure Towson throughout the first half, but were unable to add to their lead before halftime.

In the second half, Virginia picked up right where they left off and extended their lead with a goal from senior midfielder Zoe Morse in the 62nd minute. Towson struggled to generate much offense against Virginia’s strong defense, and the Cavaliers held on for the 2-0 victory.

Overall, it was a solid performance from Virginia as they kicked off their season with a win. Head coach Steve Swanson was pleased with the team’s effort and execution, especially on the defensive end. “I thought we did a good job of limiting their opportunities and stayed organized throughout the game,” Swanson said.

The win over Towson is a good sign for Virginia as they look to build on last season’s success. The Cavaliers finished the 2019 season with a 17-2-3 record and made it to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament. With a strong start to the 2020 season, Virginia is hoping to make another deep run in the tournament this year.

The Cavaliers will look to keep the momentum going as they prepare for their next game against Notre Dame. Virginia will travel to South Bend for the matchup on September 20th.
