New Transfers Join the Portal and More Transfer Opportunities Available

The transfer portal was a busy place for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry on Monday as several key players entered, including running back Malachi Thomas and linemen Gunnar Givens and Braelin Moore. Moore, who has started at center for the past two seasons, is a significant loss for the Hokies. In addition to these departures, linebacker Keli Lawson also entered the portal, leaving a gap in the defense that will need to be filled.

To address these losses, Virginia Tech has reportedly offered Coastal Carolina edge Clev Lubin, who played with current Hokie Kemari Copeland at Iowa Western Community College. With key players like Antwaun Powell-Ryland and Cole Nelson out of eligibility, the team will need to address multiple positions through the transfer portal.

One potential addition for the Hokies is East Carolina linebacker Zakye Barker, who has been offered a spot on the team. Barker had an impressive season with the Pirates, recording 86 tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles.

As the transfer portal continues to shape the roster for the upcoming season, Virginia Tech will need to make strategic moves to fill the gaps left by departing players. With Pry at the helm, the Hokies will be looking to strengthen their lineup and build a competitive team for the future.
