Community Mourns the Loss of Leah Virginia Booth at 92
May 3, 2025 – Elk, WV – Leah Virginia Booth, a cherished mother and beloved community member, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on August 19, 1932, to John W. and Ethel Vanscoy Davis in Elk, Leah was a resilient figure who balanced family life with personal pursuits.
Leah’s early education took place in a modest two-room school, and she later earned her GED in 1975. Her life was marked by love and loss, having first lost her fiancé, Denzil Lee Judy, in the Korean War. In 1953, she married Danny Von Booth, creating a partnership that lasted 48 years until his passing in 2001. As a military wife, she dedicated herself to raising their four children while managing the household.
Professionally, Leah began her career at Tucker County Hospital before returning to serve the community by delivering Meals on Wheels to senior citizens. She enjoyed quilting, cultivating her garden, and traveling with her husband. Leah’s love for the outdoors was showcased in her hunting and fishing adventures with family, particularly memorable trips to Canada.
Leah is survived by her three sons and one daughter, alongside the love of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Virginia Shiflett, and several siblings.
Visitation will take place at Hostetler Funeral Home on Monday, May 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, May 6, at 1 p.m., with Rev.
